Blue Ridge - Southern Gospel Music Quartet
Dwight Vinson of Blue RidgeDwight Vinson – AKA : Stones

Since the beginning of Blue Ridge in 1980, back when they were known as The Messengers Quartet, Dwight has been traveling up and down the highway, mostly doing the driving, and singing the bass for BR. He met Kevin and Ren Corbin, and James Guffie, while Dwight was on a date with someone from their local youth group. Dwight played two or three songs on the piano for the guys and quickly filled the bass position of their youth singing group. He’s been going there ever since. Stone’s jobs for the group include singing the bass, doing most of the driving, and the bookkeeping.

Dwight enjoys listening to jazz and his favorite style of gospel is traditional quartet and black gospel. Some of his favorite singing groups include The Cathedrals, Gold City, and Ramsey Lewis.

On his free time you will normally find Stone on his motorcycle, traveling around our beautiful Western North Carolina Mountains. He also enjoys working with his hands doing carpentry work.

Since the year 2000 Dwight has been attending and working at South Macon Baptist in Franklin, NC. He is the music director for them. He was on the music staff at his home church, Prentiss Church of God, also in Franklin. He served at Prentiss in that capacity for thirteen years prior to his transfer to South Macon.

Dwight is married to a wonderful high school friend, Martha. He and Martha have one daughter who is a beautiful and talented musician in her own right.

Now for the road stories… First, about 12-15 years ago BR was leaving a singing in Lakeland, FL. Dwight was driving up through town when a red light changed quickly. Dwight brought the bus to a complete stop from 40 MPH. Kevin was standing in the middle isle of the bus, unaware and unprepared. The bus stopped, but Kevin did not. He ended up lying in the floor near Dwight’s driver’s seat, but not before hitting every hard part of the bus like the center table and arms of the chairs of captain seats, etc. He had a huge black bruise on his thigh for a few weeks.

As Kevin lay on the floor down near the steps of the old Silver Eagle, moaning, all Dwight could do was lean over and say, ‘sorry Corb.’

Another one that comes to mind immediately is the sight of Kevin standing on the sofa in the front of the bus after seeing a mouse run from the front driver’s cabin to the front lounge. It was pretty funny to see this grown man jump quickly onto the couch and start hollering in a high pitch “KILL IT, KILL IT”.
