Blue Ridge - Southern Gospel Music Quartet

Kelly Corbin of Blue RidgeKelly Corbin - AKA : Joe or Gee

Kelly started out playing the bass guitar for Blue Ridge in 1981. He played for about one year until he started singing lead and it has been that way ever since.

Kelly playfully says, “I tell people that the group really took off when I started.”

As for his other responsibilities for the group Kelly helps Neil setup and tear down the product table, he enjoys listening and picking songs for the recording projects, produces and arranges the songs for projects, and, he points out, drives as little as possible.

Some of Kelly’s favorite music styles are southern gospel, 70’s and 80’s rock (97.1 fm the River out of Atlanta, GA) and country. The groups he enjoys most? Easy, that would be Austin’s Bridge, The Perry’s, Gaither Vocal Band, and Rascal Flatts.

His hobbies include being outdoors whether it’s a day in the creek fishing, at the hunting camp looking for deer, golfing, or working with his twenty head of cattle.

He has been a member of Holly Springs Baptist Church since he got saved at the age of twelve in Bible School. He sings in the Holly Springs Choir and he helps with Bible School. He worked for about five years with smaller kids than Eric when he worked the nursery.

Kelly is married to his beautiful, younger wife Dayna and they have two lovely girls, Kristi and Brooke. He keeps two male dogs, Stormy and Bear, around his home just to keep the balance the male/female ratio.

Favorite Road stories? Wow, where to start? While not the most favorite, here are a couple he shared.

BR had some weekend concerts booked in Texas back in the 90’s and the bus air conditioning broke down on the way. Well it was hot enough to fry eggs on the pavement, about 105 degrees, when they stopped in Baton Rouge, LA to get the AC worked on. The mechanics said it was all fixed, but only five miles down the road the AC went out again and stayed out the remainder of the trip. The worst part was the first church they sung at did not have air conditioning either.

Another time was when Mikey came running through the hotel room with his arms in the air while screaming AAAAHHHH! And he jumped on top of Stone who was laying in the bed. Stone just threw up his arms, and in one motion, threw Mikey up against the wall by the bed. Mikey slid down the wall between the bed and the wall. All you could see of Mikey was arms and legs sticking out.

Last but not least, we were at Trinity Baptist in Apopka, Florida loading up equipment. Well all of a sudden Papa tripped while helping move some speakers and fell down, flopping around like a fish out of water. This was in front of a crowd of people… and unfortunately for Papa, Stumpy saw the whole thing… which means Mikey never forgets...
